Let’s navigate the journey together.

  • Psycho–Educational Assessment

We utilize a targeted approach to evaluate for learning differences across the domains of reading, writing, attention, executive functioning, and math. This battery of assessments can be completed in a single day. Written reports include test results, diagnostic profile of learning differences, and customized recommendations and accommodations for home and school. The purpose of the psycho-educational evaluation is to understand your child’s learning profile and identify ways to support their academic success together. Utilizing 15 years of experience as a learning specialist, and extensive training and expertise in learning disabilities, Kim Palombo tailors these evaluations to both answer referral questions and ensure schools have the information needed to support and accommodate a child’s needs.

    What to expect:

A 4–5 hour evaluation in person or virtually.

A comprehensive report to include a summary of your child’s learning profile, diagnostic information (if identified), and recommendations and accommodations for home and school.

The results of the assessment can be used to identify areas of strength and weakness in foundational skills to pinpoint the underlying causes of reading, math, and writing challenges and provide therapeutic treatment recommendations. If the results Indicate a learning disability in reading, math, and/or writing, the report can be used to request special education services or a 504 plan*.

A 45–minute meeting will be scheduled to go over the results of the evaluation, answer questions, and discuss next steps.

*The report can be shared as part of an initial referral for accommodations and/or special education services, but does not guarantee services will be provided by a school.

  • Educational Therapy

Educational therapy is holistic, intensive, and systematic intervention that focuses on building a person’s self-concept as a learner while simultaneously improving the foundational cognitive processes associated with learning. We begin with a review of existing evaluation data and/or assessment of current strengths and needs of an individual. Then we create a plan, including goals, objectives, and an intervention approach. Each session is designed to support the individualized academic needs across domains for the student including organizational, time management, and productivity skills for clients from elementary school through high school. (virtual or in–person)

  • Structured Literacy Therapy

Structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham) therapy is the gold standard for the treatment of language–based learning disabilities, including dyslexia. Structured literacy intervention, grounded in the extensive Science of Reading research, utilizes explicit and systematic instruction in both foundational (phonology and spelling) and more complex (comprehension and writing) skills to support a child’s reading and writing development. At District Kids, our structured literacy therapists have completed accredited training coursework. (virtual or in person)

  • Targeted Educational Assessment

If a comprehensive psycho-educational evaluation is not needed, we can tailor educational evaluations to understand a child’s reading, writing, and math skills. These targeted evaluations provide an understanding of a child’s strengths and needs, whether there is a need for academic intervention, and often are appropriate for education decision-making.
